LESSON 8: RIVER SYSTEMS
Rivers have played an important role in human lives for millennia. They have been used for drinking water, to support agriculture and for transportation. Settlements have been created along rivers for centuries.
A river system is all the streams and lakes that connect to the main river body.
A river starts at high ground, with its headwaters and then flows downhill.

A drainage basin is all of the land that is drained by a river system. There are five drainage basins in North America. The water in each river then drains out to larger bodies of water, like an ocean.
There are different drainage patterns for rivers/ Two main patterns are:
1) Dendritic - Looks like a tree
2) Trellis - Looks like a road system
