Unit A1:
Human Settlement and the Physical Environment
Our Big Question
In what ways can the environment affect human settlement?
We will need to discover:
We will need to discover:
- Why do we live in the places we do?
- How does the environment impact the ways in which we live?
Why do we choose to live in the places we do?
With the use of technology, the human species has been able to inhabit extreme locations all over the world - and in some cases beyond - with wildly different physical environments.
From freezing tundras to searing hot deserts, humans have adapted to their physical environment and have developed settlements that work with, and sometimes change, the landscape around them.
Over the course of this unit, we will examine some of the most extreme locations in the world and will answer the question: "How does the environment affect human settlement?"
